Object history Provenance: Birkelse Manor. Descendants of the Skeel family. Since the 1960s in a private home in California. Acquired by antiques dealer Jesper Damgaard Lauritzen, Damgaard-Lauritsen Antik, Odense, and returned to Denmark in February 2008. Sold by him in March 2008 to an anonymous Danish collector at the "Antikviteter på Børsen" venue. However, the same pair of portraits were already auctioned at Bruun Rasmussen on November 29, 2007. Sold at Bruun Rasmussen Auctions on November 26, 2019 for DKK 75,000 (Lot 891/​121, the pair).
