| Description | A gorgeous rock fall, enveloped by lush green forests over which the Sharavathy takes a multi-streamed plunge, Jog Falls or Joga or Jogada gundi in Kannada is Asia’s second highest plunge waterfall. Joga in Kannada means falls. Here is where the river Sharavathy takes a mighty plunge (253 m); flowing over 230 m wide rocky bed. Then she takes the plunge to fall as 4 different water streams named Raja, Rani, Roarer & Rocket. Prior to this magnificent drop, the river Sharavathy is dammed and a tall Linganamkki dam stands to hold a large volume of water. Joga is fed by the dam release water. Hence the water volume is very thin, except for the monsoons of course. You can see the indomitable Joga in all its splendor & grandeur only in the monsoons, that too when the dam releases excess water. At other times, the rock face stands to capture your imagination. One can also descend the 1000 odd steps to reach the bottom of the falls, a large rocky pool. |
