Summary
[edit]DescriptionJoe Lott Tuff (Lower Miocene, 19 Ma; Joe Lott Creek Canyon, Tushar Mountains, Utah, USA) 1.jpg |
English: These grayish rocks are part of the Joe Lott Tuff, an explosive volcanic unit deposited about 19 million years ago, during the Early Miocene. Despite the name, the rocks aren't volcanic tuffs, which are lithified ash deposits. Here, matrix-supported, pebble-sized, angular clasts are abundant.
Stratigraphy: Joe Lott Tuff, Mt. Belknap Volcanics, upper Lower Miocene, 19 Ma Locality: outcrop near Castle Rock Campground, Joe Lott Creek Canyon, Fishlake National Forest, south of Fremont Indian State Park & south of Interstate 70, northern Tushar Mountains, Sevier County, southwest-central Utah, USA |
