Description

Fondée en 1459 par Rao Jodha, chef du clan des Rathore (hindi: राठौड), Jodhpur est communément surnommée la « ville bleue » car la plupart des maisons de la vieille ville sont peintes de cette couleur. Le fort Mehrangarh, d'où a été prise la photographie, domine la ville ancienne qui est entourée de remparts.

Cette citadelle, située sur une colline au centre de la ville ancienne, comprend le palais du Maharaja composé d'une suite de bâtiments très ouvragés de style architectural rajput.

Le style rajput, arrivé à maturité au XVIIème siècle, est une synthèse entre le style hindou et l'art islamique moghol (ce dernier étant lui-même d'origine persane).

L'ensemble du site du fort a été transformé en musée.
