Model - Jo-Louise Year Taken - July 2015 Camera - Canon 5dSr Lens - Canon 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM Location - My House ISO - 800 Follow me on Twitter Follow me on 500px Follow me on Google+ Canon 5dSr So today, I decided that I would put the new Canon 5dSr to the test on a candid photo shoot. I have to say, I am not disappointed. Sure, the dynamic range is still not in the Nikon or Sony league, nor is the ability to recover detail from shadow. But the resolution and overall image quality from this beast is better than anything I have ever used before. I have owned a Nikon D800E and a Sony A7R and this new camera from Canon beats them both. It is not perfect, but it's level of detail is nothing short of astonishing. This is my first shoot in over six months, having fallen out of love with this kind of photography. But it is amazing what an expensive new camera can do for your inspiration and I found myself deciding to give it one more go :). Jo-Louise So Jo-Louise turned up a few hours ago and as we always do when we work together, we spent the first hour chatting. It is a funny relationship that some models and photographers have. You are not friends as such, certainly not anything more than that, but there is implied intimacy from a distance. This comes out in the images and as Jo said to me today, the better a model and photographer get on, the better the resulting images. So yes, we chatted. Mainly about my new girlfriend, Rachel, who I probably began to bore Jo with :). I will speak more of Rachel in a photo I am going to be uploading later tonight, so I won't go into too much detail here. Suffice to say, she is my favourite thing. So Jo and I agreed that we were going to try and take some soft, candid, closely cropped images that implied sensuality without being too obvious about it. We had very little light to work with, the cloudy day barely making its way through the windows and to where we were. However, occasionally the sun fought against the cloud and put in an appearance and we managed to capture something that gave the impression of Sunday morning photography of an intimate moment. This is one of those. I feel it really captures a moment, as a still from a film or short movie might do. Its hard to not wonder what happened next, or to imagine the scene unfolding in front of you. Thats what we wanted to achieve and although this image does not show off the Canon 5dSr in all its glory, it works as a concept (in my humble opinion). These are almost all shot wide open, at F/1.4 or thereabouts. I wanted them soft, candid, with lots of bokeh and creamy backgrounds. As always with Jo, we got a lot of great photos. She is so easy to work with and has, by far, the best personality of any model I have ever worked with. She is kind, sweet, funny and warm. If you were to meet her, you would not for one minute think she was a model. She is a beautiful girl, but her personality is so inoffensive and "girl next door" that you would never believe she had the ego required to make it in the world of modelling. She does, but where others develop narcissistic tendencies, Jo has simply developed confidence. |
