Čeština: Plukovník zeměpisné služby PhDr. Jiří Čermák (* 1884 – 1955) byl zeměpisec, kartograf a cestovatel. Autor horolezecké, legionářské a zeměpisné literatury. Od roku 1932 vykonával funkci zástupce náčelníka Vojenského zeměpisného ústavu (VZÚ) v Praze. Od března 1937 do února 1940 byl velitelem Vojenského zeměpisného ústavu, resp. Zeměpisného ústavu ministerstva vnitra (ZÚMV). V souvislosti se zatajováním geodetického a kartografického materiálu před Němci byl počátkem února 1940 suspendován z velení ústavu, zatčen gestapem, uvězněn a postaven před německý vojenský válečný soud. Za napomáhání byl odsouzen a následně (až do konce druhé světové války) vězněn. Snímek pochází z roku 1938 a je výřezem z fotografie, na které se prezident republiky Dr. Edvard Beneš v doprovodu velitele VZÚ (J. Čermáka) seznamuje s novými mapovými podklady zpracovanými ve VZÚ. Autorem této fotografie je neznámá osoba. |
