English: Ji Un-yeong (1852-1935). Red Cliff. 1922. Ink and light colors on silk. Ewha Womans University Museum. Note of the Museum : Ji Un-yeong was a scholar painter working between the late Joseon Dynasty and early modern Korea. This painting features the famous poet-official Su Shi strolling along on a red cliff. Red cliffs were one of the common painting motifs among literati until the late Joseon Dynasty. This painting is considered key to understanding the works of Un-yeong, as its composition is groundbreaking and impressive compared to many other ‘’Red Cliff’’ paintings.

Notice du musée : Ji Un-yeong (1852-1935) était un peintre lettré travaillant entre la fin de la dynastie Joseon et le début de la Corée moderne. Cette peinture représente le célèbre poète Su Shi qui se promène au pied d’une falaise rouge. La falaise rouge était l'un des motifs en peinture très commun chez les lettrés jusqu'à la fin de la dynastie Joseon. Cette peinture est considérée comme essentielle pour comprendre les œuvres d'Un-yeong, car sa composition est révolutionnaire et impressionnante par rapport à de nombreuses autres peintures de la « Falaise Rouge ». |
