Summary

[edit]
Description

Erlton, Calgary

Established in 1904, this is the oldest Hebrew burial ground in Calgary. It has also been a cemetery for Jews from elsewhere in southern Alberta without Jewish burial places in their communities. The layout reflects traditional Judaic ritual, including the practice of all graves oriented west to east and a separation of the genders, except in the case of couples.
