Description
The experts at Bruun Rasmussen used the title Admiral Wriesberg i uniform, but that was rather problematic. The Danish Navy knows only one admiral Wrisberg, and he was born 14 years after Juel's death, so he is ruled out. The Wrisberg in question would be Johan Peter David Wrisberg, born in 1771. The painting of him was exhibited in 1909 by Kunstforeningen (The Art Association) in Copenhagen. Here it was named Admiral Wrisberg, but added the information fhv. Gouvernør paa Guineakysten (former governor on the Guinea Coast). And that brings us to Johan Peter David, who served two times (1795-1799 and 1802-1807) as governor of the Danish colonies on the Guinea Coast. Whether he was ever an admiral is highly dubious, he more probably had an army rank. Catalog of the 1909 exhibition at kunstbib.dk.
