Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Velebit breccia (“Jelar” breccia), Croatien Dinaric Alps, Velebit.
Geology: The carbonate breccia are chaotically fractured by strong tectonics of Middle Eocene to Middle Miocene age. They outcrop on the SW slope of the Velebit over a distance of more than 100km, also along the complete WE striking ‘Bakovac-graben’ and the Lika region. The broken zone is an essential feature of uvalas, distinguished from sinkholes by size and genesis. Uvalas are generated both by karstification and considerable faulting. Part of the breccia was diagenetically cemented by fine crystalline mass. Where not totally cemented, it is highly water permeable (karst).

Deutsch: Velebit breccia („Jelar“ Brekzien), Kroatische Dinariden, Velebit.
