Another very profit-able crop that is grown locally isokra, and it is probably one ofthe most profit- able minor cropsthat is grown in Jefferson Cou-nty. The demand is practicallyunlimited and as the growingperiod extends from June untilthe middle of November, it iseasily seen that the opportunitywith this particular crop shouldnot be overlooked. There is asplendid local demand for suchcrops as radishes, beets, squash,carrot, cucumbers, arsnipps andpepper. And while these cropsare grown very successfully in asmall way the majority of suchvegetables are shipped into Bir-mingham in car load or mixedcarload lots from distant points.A careful investigation of theneeds and the enormous con-sumption in the BirminghamDistrict of all classes of farmproducts would lead any investi-gator to the conclusion that thebusiness of growing produce forthe Birmingham market wouldafford a fine return for the effortand money invested.
