In esti-mating the pDssible profits in growingpotatoes in this section one shouldnot lose sight of the fact that twocrops a season are easily made sothat where a short crop might occursometime one has two chances tomake a profit showing on the samepiece of ground. The early orspring crop is generally plantedin February and is usually readyto harvest in June. Fall cropsof potatoes are planted in July andAugust and are generally harvestedabout the first to middle of Novem-ber. A careful in-vestigation covering a period of threeyears has developed the fact that theaverage price of garden peas hasbeen close around one dollar perbushel. To be accurate, statisticswill show that the price has beenninety-four cents per bushel. A care-ful investigation of the yield hasproven that local growers have aver-aged one hundred and twenty-fivebushel hampers to the acre. Nowwhen it is figured that the crop ofgarden peas is harvested in abouteight weeks time, the profit in grow-ing such a crop for this market isthoroughly apparent. LETTUCE.—But few farmers ap-preciate the possibilities of profit-showing in the production of one acreof lettuce. Figuring the averagedistance twenty thousand plants tothe acre is possible. If the cropis properly grown and well fer-tilized it is not unreasonable toexpect as much as 239 centsper head—this gives an incomeof $500.00 off of an acre andwhen you
