| Description |
English: Built in 1845-1846, this Greek Revival-style building was designed by Judge Robert Hynes and built by the Hickman Brothers to serve as the Jefferson County Courthouse, and replaced a previous courthouse built in 1794. The building features a red brick exterior with a side-gable roof, a gabled two-story rear wing, two-over-two double-hung windows with stone lintels and sills, doric pilasters at the corners of the building, a two-story front portico with rectilinear doric columns, a front gable with a fanlight attic window, a three-tier tower with rectilinear lower tier and an octagonal upper tier with a dome and weather vane, a front door with sidelights and a transom, and a red brick two-story gabled addition to the west of the original structure. The building is a contributing structure in the Dandridge Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. The building today houses various county offices. |
