Description
English: Jarlshof from the Sumburgh Hotel The site at Jarlshof, occupied over many centuries dating back to the Bronze Age, was given its name by Sir Walter Scott, who's visit to Shetland inspire his book 'The Pirate'. The building on the right is the most recently occupied, varioulsy known as the 'Old House of Sumburgh', 'The laird's house' and 'Stewart Mansion', it was abandoned in the late 17th century. The modern building on the left houses the site entrance and interpretation.
