Description |
English: Serbian rock silk gown in gray blue and bundles of rice and flower branches in red with green and red with blue, filled with silk wadding and lined with yellow silk. Model: This jacket is equal to the standard pattern of the Japanese Kosode with the exception of the shawl collar, which is not composed of remaining pieces of fabric, but here as a long strip. The model of the sleeves seems at first sight the most different, but here are the hanging kimono sleeves a quarter turn and cut open. The original kososdes always follows the pattern of the sleeves to the body, but here it is at odds. Kosode is a piece of silk fabric of 10.5 m with a width of about 32.0 cm. This gown is 10:54 m fabric used with a width of 37.0 cm. Art: the pattern is applied in a sophisticated form of katagami technique. The basic principle of this technique is stencil cuts: one explains mulberry leaves cut stencils on the fabric and spread about a porridge made from steamed rice flour and bran. The stencil is removed so that the porridge on the fabric to dry. Hereinafter, the substance completely coated with a glue-like liquid from soya beans, and when it has dried, color is applied by brush. Finally, the surplus is washed away making recessed, unpainted motives remain. The pattern on this jacket is a multicolored, repetitive motif which probably over a stencil is used. At the top and bottom of such a stencil typically there are two holes, which move the stencil in a repeating motif to facilitate. On this matter are three different recognize types. This may indicate the use of three stencils. Cf. stencil collection Von Siebold, 3448 I, IX k 68, National Museum of Ethnology, Leiden. |
