Description
English: 5 Centavo overprint on 4 Centavo United States of America Philippine Islands 1935 Agriculture issue (Woman and Carabao statue) postage stamp overprinted under Japanese occupation commemorating the "First Anniversary of the Great East Asia War" Postmark: MANILA *PHILIPPINES* DEC 8 1942 PM (CDS)

Base stamp: 4c Agriculture issue of 1935 (yellow green) Overprint in black: "First Anniversary, Greater East Asia War" (in Japanese) with date "12-8-1942" and value "5" (over "4" Centavos); Deleting bar at top to obliterate "United States of America"

NOTE: Although the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor took place on the morning of Sunday, December 7, 1941, Hawaiian time, as Japan is West of the International Date Line it was Monday there thus making December 8, 1942, the correct date in Asia to observe the first anniversary of the start of the War.
