Description

No D5151 on display outside the entrance to Saga-Arashiyama station on the Sagano line north of Kyoto. The Class 51 "Daigochi" were built by Kawasaki in 1937 and affectionately known as 'slugs'. Over 1000 were built and were important to the economic development of modern Japan. The distinctive casing of the upper boiler was for streamlining. She was originally stored at Kuzuha Shopping Mall in Hirakata, Osaka before moving to Saga-Arashiyama station north of Kyoto.
