Model - Janek Year Taken - August 2014 Camera - Canon 5d mkiii Lens - Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM Location - MMA Studio ISO - 100 Follow me on Twitter Follow me on 500px Follow me on Google+ Janek So yes, I was asked by Rosie and Carl to do some photography for the advertising of their MMA studio in Birmingham. They wanted a collection of images that could be used, in part, to advertise their amazing studio and also feature as artwork that would adorn the walls of this theatre of brutality. So, I made the long drive up to Birmingham and entered this arena of violence. This gym is one of the best Ive ever been in. Yes, its a Mixed Martial Art gym, adorned with cage, grappling area and a plethora of punch bags. Soon after arriving, I was introduced to the fighters I was going to be photographing. Then, shortly after, Janek hoofed his way in. Now I have to tell you, this guy is large. His arms measure the size of my legs and are rippled with veins that pop through his rustic skin like snakes sliding through his flesh. He lifts weights with ease and pumps the metal up and forward in a way that makes you realise he could throw you and your camera through the nearest window with an accompanied roar. So this is my attempt at making art out of the pumping of iron. Not easy, as weight training is not one life's most artistic or creative endeavours. No, its a means to an end which holds little imagination or perspective. But I tried. |
