Description |
Deutsch: Jan von Werth (1590/91–1652) war einer von denen, der den Krieg für sein persönliches Fortkommen zu nutzen wusste. Die damals starren gesellschaftlichen Verhältnisse konnte man noch am ehesten in Kriegszeiten überwinden. Johann war ein Bauernsohn aus Büttgen bei Neuss und hatte in Köln eine Weile als Knecht gearbeitet. Er meldete sich zur Armee und erwies sich sowohl in Diensten des bayerischen Kurfürsten als auch des Kaisers als begabter Heerführer, der es bis zum General brachte. Er wurde in den Adelsstand erhoben und erhielt eine eigene Herrschaft in Böhmen. Als er starb, gab sein Regiment diese Bahrfahne mit seinem Bildnis in Auftrag.
In Köln blieb er so populär, dass man ihm vor über 120 Jahren auf dem Altermarkt sogar ein Denkmal mit einem Brunnen errichtete. |
