Description
English: The monument to James Wilson Marshall, whose discovery of gold at Sutter's Mill in present-day Coloma, CA, led to the California Gold Rush. The monument is located at the end of Monument Road (State Route 153) above the town of Coloma (latitude 38°47'48"N, longitude 120°53'39.0"W). Unveiled in 1890, it was California's first State Historic Monument. It is California Historical Landmark #143 (http://ohp.parks.ca.gov/ListedResources/Detail/143).
