| Description |
English: James Russell Ivie (December 30, 1802 – June 10, 1866) sitting in a rocking chair. Ivie was an early convert to Mormonism (1830), who lived in the Mormon settlements of Kirtland, Ohio, Far West, Missouri, and Nauvoo, Illinois while each was in their prime. He was a member of Zion's Camp, and as a Cherokee avoided the Trail of Tears in 1838 only to be exiled from Missouri that same year due to the Missouri Mormon War. During the Mormon Exodus he marched with the Mormon Battalion (under his sons name), and as a Mormon pioneer in Utah he was the first presiding Elder in the community of Mount Pleasant, Utah. His son James sparked the Wakara War, and Ivie himself was killed by Antonga Black Hawk as an early casualty of the Ute Black Hawk War. |
