Pawnee Agency, O.T.
Dec. 26th 1893 -
Miss A.M. Longfellow: -
Unknown friend your letter to me Dec. 17th has reached me: and am happy that you are willing to help me in reading matter. I like reading very much and will be thankful to receive any reading matter you may have to spare. The Southern Workman I shall enjoy for I use to help print it while at Hampton. I am glad Miss Dawson is doing so nicely. I knew her at Hampton and am glad she is fitting herself for work when she returns home; for such ladies are needed among Indian people. I made a grand mistake for returning home while a young man. I should have stayed East and fit myself a minister then return home and work among my people. I say this because my people need a minister among them and they have requested me to give them Bible lessons Sundays. Man, women, and children - O: how much good I could do had I fit [crossed out: for] myself for this work. I can't help but shed tears for them and ask the Great Spirit to bless and forgive “our Sins” - Send me any religious matter you can – Your Friend
