Italiano: "Notizie storico-critiche: Il dipinto è parte di una serie di ritratti ascrivibili con ogni probabilità a Jacob Ferdinand Voet e alla sua cerchia (in gran parte dei casi già attribuiti a Mignard). Essi appaiono come altrettante variazioni di una stessa formula, che assicurò il successo dell'artista presso le famiglie aristocratiche di Roma, dove soggiornò dal 1663 al 1679. Le effigiate indossano abiti conformi alla moda filo-francese introdotta da Maria Mancini e la loro espressione è di solito intima, bonaria o ironica, libera da qualsiasi gravità o aulicità. Lo stile rivela una pennellata fluida che dà risalto alle luci e crea effetti spumeggianti nei ricami di velluto o damasco; i volti invece sono levigati e finiti, senza traccia di pennellata. Il personaggio qui raffigurato è lo stesso che appare nel ritratto inv. n. 955. Si tratta quindi o di Maria o di Ortensia Mancini. Le analogie stilistiche tra i due quadri sono pure evidenti: la stessa presentazione, la stessa resa dell'abito, della collana (quella donata a Maria da Luigi XIV che si era innamorato di lei?) e degli orecchini di perle, la stessa levigatezza della carnagione."
