Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Built in 1897 and expanded with the addition of a fifth floor to the roof in 1899, this former warehouse building was designed by Earnest Kennedy, and was historically known as the Andrews Building. The red brick building features arched openings along North Third Avenue on the first floor and modern rectangular storefronts along Washington Avenue, wide windows with shallow arches on the second and third floors, with the fourth floor windows featuring intricate brick surrounds that form a Gothic Arch above the shallow arches of the window openings, a corbeled cornice at the original roofline, and a much plainer fifth floor, which features rectangular windows and has somewhat diminished the original design. Formerly utilized as a warehouse and later as a commercial office building with retail spaces on the first floor, the building has been adaptively reused as the Hewing Hotel, a boutique hotel with an industrial theme. The building is a contributing structure in the Minneapolis Warehouse Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.
