Summary
[edit]DescriptionJack Cincinnati Casino, Pendleton, Cincinnati, OH (28225379168).jpg | The JACK (formerly Horseshoe) Casino was built about a decade ago in what used to be a giant parking crater between Pendleton and Interstate 71 in Cincinnati. Constructed on the Broadway Commons site, the casino opened in 2013 as one of four casinos approved by a statewide referendum in 2009, where casinos were allowed to open in Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Toledo, and are taxed at a high rate with revenues going to fund local school districts. Though I do like that the casino has activated a previously dead site in the city, I have qualms about its design, it being rather suburban in nature, with large setbacks and landscaping around the perimeter, rather than greeting the street like buildings in the surrounding built-up areas, as well as its massive form that is much more monolithic than anything else in the surrounding area, making it appear out of place. Still, it is a positive change from a massive parking crater, along with its positive impact on the state and city, and for that, I can put up with the design issues with the building. |
