Description |
English: Sign in image reads: Animal kingdom. 150 ferocious wild beasts from many jungles performing difficult feats. Paradoxical! Greater than the famous Circus Maximus. Stamped on verso: Portland, Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition. Handwritten on verso: The Trail: Jabour's Wild Animals.Filed in: Box 1/15 Jabour's Trained Wild Animal Arena contained tigers, leopards, bears, zebras, hyenas, elephants, seals, sea-lions, pumas, wildcats, monkeys, baboons, panthers, snakes, alligators, and lions. "The Trail" was an 800 foot-long street that featured amusements and carnival attractions. In the left corner of the picture, there is a cart selling Abetta biscuits. Abetta biscuits was a direct competitor of Uneeda biscuits, popular soda crackers produced by the National Biscuit Company. In 1914, Nabisco won a lawsuit against the Pacific Biscuit Company for their use of a similar package, trademark, and name to sell Abetta biscuits. The Lewis and Clark Exposition was hosted by the city of Portland from June 1 to October 15, 1905. Covering over 400 acres, the fair showcased exhibits from various nations and states, and it promoted the economic potential of the Pacific Northwest region.
