Deutsch: Jean-François Cerquand über die provenzalische Dichtung Les avantures de Barbakan von Michel-Ange Marin (1722):
„Ein anderer Avignoneser, der Paulanerpater Marin, ist der Verfasser des interessantesten dieser kleinen Heldenepen: Les avantures de Barbakan. Der arme Barbakan hat weder Heim noch Herd. Er streunt den ganzen Tag durch die Straßen von Avignon, bis sein Verhalten bei Bürgern und Polizei Besorgnis erregt. Eines Morgens wird er getötet. Barbakan ist nur ein Hund, zugegeben; aber er hat nichts Böses getan; und der Pater Marin, mitfühlend wie der heilige Franziskus, erzählt uns seine Hundeabenteuer in einer Sprache voller Gefühl. Das kleine Buch ist eins von denen, die die moderne Kunst gern wieder hervorholt, gedruckt und illustriert, wie es sich gehört. Die Bibliothek von Carpentras besitzt ein kostbares Exemplar der Erstausgabe.“
