These photos were taken by Mike McClare. They show the James Webb Space Telescope's test (or pathfinder) backplane, in a large packing case, being loaded onto a C-5 aircraft at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland. It was on its way to NASA Johnson in Houston to undergo cryogenic testing. The backplane is like the spine of the spacecraft and supports the mirrors and the instrument module.
