日本語: 画像のコンテナヤードは、日本で始めて私有20ftコンテナを輸送した 「 山陽ライナー 」 の運行開始にあわせて、それまでの東地区（画像上部）にある元々の西岡山駅（初代）貨物ホーム（現在の岡山ドーム地）と、付随する五トンコンテナヤードでは手狭のために、新たに西側に直線で約 1kmほどの区間を空けて島式ホーム形のコンテナ基地として整備された。
地理的には昭和の末期ごろの元大阪梅田駅や東京隅田川駅の様に、コンテナヤードが二箇所に分かれていたが、両駅の様に一般道路を隔てて隣接ではなく、東西それぞれの敷地から一旦、外周道路へ出てしばらく移動するようになる。 この為に、例えば西側の「 山陽ライナー 」 ヤードで取り降ろしたコンテナで、駅構内で積荷を小分けする場合は、トラックに載せられて約1.5km（空撮画像で実測）ほど移動して、東地区にある元々の西岡山駅（初代）構内でバラして仕分けする等、意外と不便であった。 ※画像右端の線路 （ コンテナホーム右側から三本目 ） は、山陽本線の下り線 （ 九州方面 ） である。現在は、JR山陽本線・北長瀬駅や、岡山市民病院に生まれ変わっている。 |
