Description
Deutsch: Typisch amerikanischer Stil, wegen des regelmäßigen Fahrens in Mehrfachtraktion stellt die einseitige Lage des Führerstandes kein Problem dar. Die Fahrtrichtung mit dem Maschinenvorbau voraus wird als »rückwärts« angesehen.
Gebaut wurden die nur zehn sechsachsigen SDL39 1969 und 1972 von EMD in Regelspur für die Milwaukee Road, die sie für den Rangierdienst und Nebenstrecken mit geringer zulässiger Achslast benötigte. Mit der Anpassung an chilenische Verhältnisse änderte sich die Typenbezeichnung in SD39-2M.
