Description Eriogonum umbellatum var bahiiforme—bay buckwheat. The variety, a California endemic, has a California Rare Plant Rank of 4.2 (limited distribution, fairly endangered) and a state rank of S3 (vulnerable). It grows in scattered locations in the Inner Central and North Coast Ranges, often on serpentine-derived soils. There is a disjunct population in the San Gabriel Mountains of eastern Los Angeles county. The variety grows at elevations between 700 and 2000 meters. Photographed at Regional Parks Botanic Garden located in Tilden Regional Park near Berkeley, CA.
