Summary

[edit]
Description
English: As seen in March 2022 in the NRHP-listed Central Avenue Historic District of Lancaster, New York: a "ghost sign" on the side of the building at 43 Central Avenue, facing Plum Bottom Creek, advertises the hardware, tinning and plumbing business of John N. Maute. The sign can be dated to roughly the turn of the 20th century: the so-called "Maute Block" was built in 1896, and Maute himself died in 1906.
