Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The J. Joseph O'Leary House, 150 Brunswick Boulevard at Wohlers Avenue, Buffalo, New York, February 2021. The house was built in 1920 on what was earlier the site of the old Buffalo Driving Park - the last part of the Hamlin Park neighborhood to be urbanized, long after the surrounding blocks were built out - and as the Buffalo-area sales representative of the International Home Building Company, its initial owner, John Joseph O'Leary (1887-1951), was almost singlehandedly responsible that process. Born in Toronto, O'Leary lived in the house from its completion until 1930, by which time he had ascended to the post of President of the Buffalo Real Estate Board. As for its architecture, the O'Leary House is a fairly classic example of a side-gabled Craftsman-style residence, with widely overhanging eaves undergirded by exposed rafter tails and knee-brace brackets, a central dormer on the façade elevation with a quadruple window, a narrow half-width front porch, and a side-hall floor plan.
