Summary

[edit]
Description
English: genus Montipora. The intricate and often beautiful architecture of corals, such as this one, are in reality the tombstones of billions of tiny sea animals. Chalice corals and other reef-building stony corals are composed of the innumerable hard skeletons of the creatures which built them. The soft tissues have long since disintegrated, leaving only the calcium carbonate skeletons of the multitudes which gathered together into vast communities. Chalice coral is found in the tropical waters of the Indo Pacific
