Itsukushima is know as the "floating shrine". On this, our fist trip to Miyajima, without having consulted the tide tables, we we arrived at the best possible time. You can see why it appears to float. On our two subsequent trips to Miyajima, even with tide tables in hand, the water was much lower and the effect was not nearly as good..
