Description
English:

The chart shows the distribution of votes across various parties and the trend of abstention in italian elections from 1946 to 2022.
The length of the bars represents the percentage relative to the total number of eligible voters of the:

  • votes obtained by each party;
  • invalid votes (including blank ballots);
  • remaining eligible voters who abstained from voting.

The data refers to the elections for the Constituent Assembly in 1946 and for the Chamber of Deputies from 1948 to 2022 across the entire Italian territory (excluding the region of Valle d'Aosta from 2006 onwards).

The side legend indicates the full names of the parties since the time they appeared in elections and highlights any name changes. Parties are recognizable by the associated symbols (which are simplified representations of the party symbols) and the acronyms, fully spelled out in the corresponding legend on the right. Alliances are recognizable by the presence of two colors within the same bar. The arrangement of the parties from left to right indicates their political orientation.

The vertical flows connecting the various parties show:

  • continuity across elections;
  • discontinuity;
  • mergers into alliances;
  • splits.

Additionally, two events are marked with dashed lines:

  • the change in voting age from 21 to 18 years, which increased the number of eligible voters;
  • the political corruption phenomenon known as Tangentopoli, which culminated in the Mani Pulite investigation, profoundly altering the country's political landscape.

Il grafico illustra la distribuzione dei voti tra i vari partiti e il fenomeno dell'astensionismo nelle elezioni italiane dal 1946 al 2022.
La lunghezza delle barre rappresenta la percentuale relativa al totale degli aventi diritto dei:

  • voti ottenuti da ciascun partito;
  • voti non validi (incluse le schede bianche);
  • restanti elettori aventi diritto che si sono astenuti.

I dati si riferiscono alle votazioni per la l'Assemblea Costituente per il 1946 e per la Camera dei Deputati dal 1948 al 2022 su tutto il territorio italiano (esclusa la regione della Valle d’Aosta dal 2006).

La legenda laterale indica il nome completo dei partiti a partire dalla loro comparsa elettorale e segnala eventuali cambi di nome. I partiti sono riconoscibili dai simboli associati (che sono una esemplificazione dei contrassegni delle liste) e dalle sigle, estese per intero nella legenda corrispondente sulla destra. Le alleanze sono riconoscibili per la presenza di due colori nella stessa barra. La disposizione da sinistra a destra dei partiti è indicativa del loro orientamento politico.

I flussi che collegano verticalmente i vari partiti mostrano la loro:

  • continuità nel corso delle elezioni;
  • discontinuità;
  • confluenza in alleanze;
  • scissioni.

Sono inoltre annotati due eventi con la linea tratteggiata:

  • il cambio di età per l’accesso al voto da 21 a 18 anni, che ha aumentato gli aventi diritto;
  • il fenomeno di corruzione politica giornalisticamente chiamato Tangentopoli, sfociato nell’inchiesta Mani Pulite che ha stravolto l’assetto politico del paese.
