English: "King Louis XVIII (1755-1824) when Comte de Provence, facing left in blue coat with silver-embroidered red facings (uniform of a colonel of the Carabiniers of 'Monsieur'), white waistcoat and trousers, powdered hair, his left arm resting on the hilt of his sword and leaning on a black stick in his right hand, wearing the jewel of the Order of the Golden Fleece, blue sash and breast star of the Royal French Order of the Holy Ghost and the Order of St Lazare and Our Lady of Mount Carmel; foliate background with hillside castles beyond
The present miniature was probably painted during the Comte de Provence's emigration to Piedmont, the Kingdom of his father-in-law, after the outbreak of the French Revolution." [1]
