Description
বাংলা: এটি একটি ইটাকুমারী রাজবাড়ীর পুরনো মন্দির,যা ১৯৭১ সনে যুদ্ধের সময় আক্রমণ এর মুখে পড়েছিলো।
English: This Itakumari area was one of the most advanced educational and cultural areas in the whole of India. Hence it is termed as the second Navadwip of undivided Bengal. The zamindar of Itakumari was Raja Raghunath Chandra Roy (father of Raja Shiva Chandra Roy). He established this zamindar house. His son Shiv Chandra Roy led the Peasant Rebellion of Rangpur from this zamindar house. Along with him, Devi Chaudhurani, the landlord of Manthana zamindar bari of the same upazila, also led the said farmers' movement. Both were later shot dead by the British government.[1][2] In 1783, the historic Praja Revolt of Rangpur took place from the house of Raja Shiva Chandra of Itakumari. In 1783, the anti-British Shiv Chandra and Devi Chaudhurani led the Praja Revolt and saved the peasants of Rangpur from the tyranny of Devi Singh. Itakumari Zamindarbari was the second province of then undivided Bengal. Itakumari's reputation as a beacon of education and culture spread throughout India. There is a college named after Raj Shiv Chandra here. There are also zamindar houses, temples, giant ponds and other archeological monuments.
