Description
English: The area that formerly was open to the outside air, but has been glassed in, keeping the columns. It is seen on many mosques and is for “latecomers”, or more widely for people who wish to pray outside. The mosque was built for Hacı Mehmed Ağa in 1585, Chief of the Black Eunuchs under Murat III. It is one of a few buildings that can (because of an inscription on site) be attributed to Davut Ağa, Sinans successor as Chief Architect to the sultan. It has a dome of 11 meters, resting on an octagonal base. It’s surrounded by quarter domes in the corners and a half dome over the mihrab niche.
