Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Hacı Evhad (Hacı Evhadüddin) Mosque, which is claimed to have constituted a small complex with a dervish lodge, bathhouse and fountains, was built by Mimar Sinan in 993 (1585). Its founder was named Kasap Hacı Evhad. His tomb is in the burial ground outside the qibla wall. Hacı Evhad Mosque is also included in various lists that give the names of Mimar Sinan's works. Together with a lodge, the mosque was repaired by Sultan Abdulmecid upon the request of the Nakşibendi sheik Hüsameddin Efendi in 1267 (1850-51), and a new fountain was built in its courtyard. The Hacı Evhad Mosque looked like a neglected and miserable ruin in 1941-1942. Nafia Gezer, her son Rahmi Gezer and her daughter-in-law Emine Dürnev had the mosque repaired in 1945. Since Mimar Sinan died towards 1588, the Hacı Evhad Mosque is one of his last works. There were tiles in the mosque, especially in the mihrab. In 1941, not a single piece of these tiles remained. Probably the wooden parts of the mosque, the ceiling and the hidden wooden dome were covered with magnificent hand-carved embroidery. There are many tombs in the burial ground in front of the qibla wall.
