Истанбул је трансконтинентални град у Евроазији, смјештен на Босфорском мореузу (који раздваја Европу и Азију) између Мраморног и Црног мора.

한국어: 이스탄불 은 현재 터키에서 최대 도시이다. 행정상 이스탄불 주에 속해 있다. 터키 서부에 있고 마르마라해와 흑해를 연결하는 보스포루스 해협을 가운데에 두고 아시아와 유럽 양 대륙에 걸쳐 있다. 역사, 상업적인 중심지는 유럽 지구에 있으며 인구의 1/3은 아시아 지구에 거주한다. 이스탄불은 유럽과 중동에서 가장 큰 도시이자, 세계에서 5번째로 큰 도시이다. 동로마 제국 시대에는 콘스탄티노폴리스라고 불렀으며 오스만 제국 때까지 수도로 존속하다가 현재 이름으로 개칭되었다. 1923년 이후로는 앙카라가 터키의 수도가 되었다. 2015년의 인구 수는 14,025,646명이다.
