Summary

[edit]
Description
English: One of pictures of the Kaymakçı Tekke, also known as the Tekke of Baba Iskender. They were taken during a visit, but as a service was going on it I did not get explanation of what I saw. From the German Wikipedia (translated): It was is an Ottoman-era dervish monastery in the Ahmediye district of Istanbul's Üsküdar district, built by the Janissary Agha Mehmet Efendi. Construction began in 1544, and in the same year the tekke for ritual prayer was opened. The building was originally built as a mescit, but in 1752 Kaymakçızade Sheikh Haci Mehmet Effendi converted it into a dervish convent. Before that, a cemetery and in 1728 the fountain of Damat Ibrahim Pasha from Nevşehir were added. The monastery, which was restored by Safaizade Haci Mehmet Efendi in 1800, was abandoned after the founding of the republic of Turkey and left to its fate. In 1945 parts in the middle were dismantled. The tomb (türbe) of Baba Iskender and the cemetery remained. In 2011-2013, the Üskudar Municipality rebuilt the Tekke of Baba Iskender according to the original structure. The Tekke is in the center of the complex. In the cemetery is the tomb of the patron saint of Tekke, Mehmet Efendi. The building is in close proximity to the Mosque of Malatyalı Ismail Agha.
