Israel Wood, Veteran of Civil War, Dies, Aged 84. Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 8 o'clock for Israel Wood, a veteran of the Civil War and a resident of the Brooklyn Home for Aged Men and Couples, who died Monday in his eighty-fourth year at that institution, 745 Classon avenue. He served in both the Army and Navy of the United States. He came from an old Long Island family, his great-great grandfather being an American officer in the Revolutionary War and first Postmaster-General of the United States. When Washington and Lafayette toured Long Island they took dinner at the homestead. Mr. Wood worked as a young man in the late Mayor Howell's iron works. He was afterward starter at the Astor House for the old Avenue B horse cars. He was for many years doorkeeper at various theatres in Manhattan and was a member of the Theatrical Mechanics' Association and the Theatrical Protective Union. He was a member of the Old Volunteer Firemen's Association and an honorary member of the Exempt Volunteer Firemen's Society. He was an old member of Brooklyn Lodge, 288, K. and A. M., and is survived by a widow Annie L. Wood. Interment will be private.
