| Description |
English: Ismaili Centre, Thurloe Place The Ismaili Centre in Kensington is a religious, social, and cultural meeting place for the Ismaili community. This part of Shia Islam is described on a web page http://www.akdn.org/imamat/community_history.html of the Aga Khan Development Network. The centre has a large social hall on the first floor. The most important part is the prayer hall on the second floor, which can accommodate 800 to 1000 worshippers. Above this is a roof garden with water flowing in channels, shrubs, geometric patterns; this makes a beautiful and peaceful area. I visited it when it participated in Open Garden Squares Weekend - photography was not allowed in the roof garden.
