Ise ode is one of the oldest indigenous vocations of the Yoruba people. Hunters are respected members of the Yoruba community because they often possess some supernatural powers. Hunters are considered powerful people because they are believed to possess some powerful charms such as egbé, kánòkò and àféèrí. They have a special chant called " Ìjálá ". They chant during festivals, and special group hunting. Ògún is believed to be the first ever recorded hunter in the Yorùbá mythology. Ever since, Hunting has been passed down from one generation to another. Hence, some families give their children names that express this profession.Ogun, the God of iron is believed by the Yoruba people as the first hunter and this vacation has been inherited and passed from generation to generation.
