English: This grayscale visible image of Hurricane Isaac over the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Louisiana was captured on August 28, 2012, at 11:45 A.M. CDT (16:45 UTC), by the GOES VARiable (GVAR) instrument flying aboard NOAA's GOES 13 satellite. Isaac was a moderately intense hurricane that originated from a tropical wave over the Main Development Region during the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season. When this was captured, Isaac was a Category 1 hurricane, with winds of 80 mph (130 km/h) (70 knots) on the 1-min Saffir-Simpson scale and had a minimum central pressure of 973 mbar (28.7 inHg). |
