Title |
Iron annular buckle, uncleaned |
||
Description |
English: Wrought iron medieval annular buckle, probably dating from the medieval or early post-medieval period, i.e. c. 14th-16th century. The buckle is complete and in good condition; the iron is not very flaky at the surface and the finder manage to carry out some simple cleaning and remove some of the surface corrosion (see images). The frame is of annular shape with the rod having a round cross-section while the pin has a square cross-section. It is now corroded the frame, but used to move freely around the frame. The buckle is big and sturdy and rather than ornamental it was probably a harness buckle. Its outer diameter is 65mm and the inner diameter is 45mm.
NB: The find was seen by the FLO, but the images were kindly supplied by the finder. |
