Title
Iron Age unidentified object
Description
English: A copper-alloy object, possibly a hanging bowl mount or escutcheon dating to the Early Medieval period. The object comprises a flat, circular plate. At one end, the plate extends to a circular-section suspension loop which is broken. At the other, the plate narrows to form a flat, rectangular extension which is now broken. The upper surface of the plate is decorated with a central circular cell encircled by a further ring-shaped cell, perhaps originally intended to accommodate a piece of coral. The upper surface of the plate is also decorated with curvilinear incised decoration, although its exact nature is obscured by corrosion products. The underside of the plate is plain. The object measures 32mm in length, 16mm in width and 2mm in thickness. It weighs 3.59g.
