Iron Age toggle fastener
Description
English: Iron Age fastener; Cast copper alloy toggle fastener dating to the late Iron Age or possibly the early Roman period. The fastener is formed of a small, hollow cylinder of copper alloy with flat, circular terminals. The cylinder narrows just before the terminals and has an incised line around its centre. A thin band of the metal has been pulled out at the back of the cylinder to form an attachment loop, leaving an oval hole behind the loop.

Many similar examples are recorded on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database. Compare, for instance, ESS-CC8296, HESH-786D48 and BH-94DC85

Length 26.9mm, width (front of toggle to back of loop) 15.0mm, diameter (terminal ends) 12.9mm, weight 16.44g.
