Title
Iron Age linch pin terminal
Description
English: A late Iron Age composite copper alloy and iron linch pin terminal head (c. 1st century BC - 1st century AD). 'Vase-shaped' head type.

The object comprises a broken iron shank at the bottom, bordered by a rounded copper alloy collar. Above sits the spherical central part, flattened on the top and bottom, with a circular perforation through the middle. The top part of the terminal is 'vase-headed' - tall and circular in plan, with concave sides flaring from a small collar at the bottom to a wider, thicker edge at the top of the object. The very top of the terminal is broadly flat, with a central raised circular boss surrounded by a deep depressed groove. Bordering this are two semi-circular raised edges, not encompassing the entire circumference, but from the 2 o'clock to 4 o'clock positions on the right, and the 8 o'clock to 10 o'clock positions on the left. The copper alloy parts of the linch pin terminal have an even green patina, while the iron shank is corroded.
